[k-9-mail] Deleting Trash files

I have found that my Trash file has grown over 1.1Gig since I am unable to
select and purge the files as it locks up?
It keeps going. I search for the file while tethered to my PC and can't
locate it as Application/data/... ?
I'd rather not uninstall and set up all my accounts again if there is a
work around
Any advice would be great.

One thing you can do (ASSUMING IT IS AN IMAP ACCOUNT!) is long-press the account and select "Recreate Data (last resort!)". This will delete all local mails. You can then sync your desired folders (e.g inbox) to re-download messages you want.

Do not do this with POP3 unless you have copies of all your mails elsewhere!

This sort of problem is exactly why I strongly recommend against using POP3. If your provider offers IMAP service (Gmail certainly does), I would suggest setting up a new account in K-9 with the IMAP login, verifying that all your mails are there, then deleting the POP3 account from K-9.

I'm having the same problem that Ron is having.
I have over 5900 messages in the trash folder and K-9 crashes when I try to
delete them through the application.

I realize it's my own fault that I didn't stay on top of emptying the Trash
folder. To be honest I didn't realize there was a trash folder until about
a year into using the app. That said, now that I realize it's an issue, I
need a solution for emptying it. Is there one?
The IMAP solution is not useful for me as verizon uses a pop server.
My last ditch solution is to remove the app. Assuming I do that, will the
database file be deleted along with the app and take care of the problem?

Thank you for your help.

Emptying the trash folder freezes up on my phone too when I have a lot in there. It is a galaxy s7 edge. The accounts are POP. If I just leave it alone and come back, it tells me it stopped working and I send a report. But 9 times out of 10 it did go ahead and empty. Just irritating that it can't handle clearing the local trash files without freezing up.

Do we actually have a solution to this problem yet? My local trash folder
is now over 16000 messages and I can't clear it. The messages are all held
elsewhere on my server and I don't want to tie up space on my smartphone
(Galaxy S5).

From memory, all you can do is to open the trash folder on the phone,
manually select a relatively small number of messages and delete them.
Repeat ad nauseam until you have cleared the folder completely.

My Trash folder is synced with my server, so I just hit sync and then
most go away, as I do expiration of old ones via another client. So
I've never run into this.
